Well, all things must change, eventually. Yesterday, we took our boat, Bombadil, over to Seaview Marine West, at Shilshole and had it pulled out of the water for a full survey. Liz, the potential buyer who was paying for the survey, went with us. John, the surveyor Liz had lined up, explained what he would do and we hung around and answered questions and explained upgrades and the date of those changes. We didn't get enough sunscreen on, and since we were around water the entire time and on the water for about 4 hours, we got way too much sun. But, Bombadil came through the survey well, and Liz has agreed to buy her at the price we have agreed on. So, as soon as we dot the 'i's and cross the 't's, we will no longer own her, after 44 years. We lived aboard for six of those years, and she was our vacation spot cruising around Puget Sound for at least another 25 of those years. But getting older and both of us with balance issues, sailing is not a good idea for us any more. They say the best two days in a boat owner's life are the day he buys her, and the day he sells her. But while selling will save us a good deal of money on moorage and insurance, it is a rather poignant day for us because of all the good times. But, it is also a very nice anniversary present for us, as today is our 49th anniversary.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays, which ever floats your boat, to all my friends on the RubinReport channel!
We went to a rental in Easter Washington to celebrate our 51st Anniversary. Bottom line is that we had a good time. Highlights: Beautiful place and views. Access to a very nice stream on a private beach. Coming home, about 11:15am, when we were passing Keechelus Lake (just below the summit of Snoqualmie Pass), we heard what I at first throught was a very loud truck overtaking us, but could not see it in my mirrors. But looking out the left window of the car I saw what I think was an F-18 flying about 50' above our altitude, (or about 150' above the lake level) around 50 yards off to my left! This was followed by two more of the same type planes rolling just like in the video you see of them to make their turns. Total of three of them following the terrain. Cool!!! I haven't seen them in real life doing that, but it is so impressive. Lowlights of the trip, A-Frame house with the bed shoved against the wall is very hard on a tall person who is on the wall side, and Janet fell ...
