Well, I've already mentioned the water loss the 4th weekend. But this just has not been my summer. We took a trip to Montana to do some fishing, but found that was the one area of Montana not open to fishing at that time, and to top it off, the place we rented was made for someone shorter than 6'. I'm 6'3 - there were 8 places where I could bang my head if I wasn't watching carefully. I've had a sinus infection, an ear infection, had my dogs run away twice, the water went out, and the guy who was going to help me move the junk out of the way so the pump guy could get to the well pulled the pressure valve out of one of his tractor tires on the second pass at moving the stuff, a broken stove, now seem to have a cracked tooth that is killing me. Had vocal problems when I was scheduled to sing on July 1st, as a result of the sinus infection, that kept me from hitting my high notes when my quartet sang. The audience loved it, but we could hear where the chords didn't quite tune on my high notes. And tonight, via a series of things going wrong to put things in the wrong place at the wrong time, I knocked the Cookie Monster Cookie Jar we have had for more than 40 years off the counter and broke it to smithereens! At this point, if I had a virgin and knew whom to sacrifice him/her to, I'd be tempted! There is a country western song out there that says, "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all." Now I know that isn't true, because my wonderful wife and I have been married for almost 49 years (less than a month to go) and she has survived a brain tumor and I've survived 3 bouts with cancer. But this month has been tough.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays, which ever floats your boat, to all my friends on the RubinReport channel!
We went to a rental in Easter Washington to celebrate our 51st Anniversary. Bottom line is that we had a good time. Highlights: Beautiful place and views. Access to a very nice stream on a private beach. Coming home, about 11:15am, when we were passing Keechelus Lake (just below the summit of Snoqualmie Pass), we heard what I at first throught was a very loud truck overtaking us, but could not see it in my mirrors. But looking out the left window of the car I saw what I think was an F-18 flying about 50' above our altitude, (or about 150' above the lake level) around 50 yards off to my left! This was followed by two more of the same type planes rolling just like in the video you see of them to make their turns. Total of three of them following the terrain. Cool!!! I haven't seen them in real life doing that, but it is so impressive. Lowlights of the trip, A-Frame house with the bed shoved against the wall is very hard on a tall person who is on the wall side, and Janet fell ...
