What Is Up With Tom
Gaming
Conn...Sonar! is a set of rules for playing (or replaying) movies like "Hunt For Red October" on a tabletop with miniature submarine figures. I didn't write the rules, but I play them regularly, and miss having a discussion place for them since I left facebook. Each player commands 1-2 submarines, and it can be played by email instead of on the tabletop. I'll post the rules, the pdf files for the cards for each submarine, ship, helicopter, or plane, and various other information you need.

Baking To Get Ready

So, this afternoon I made brownies from scratch. Baking from scratch isn't unusual for me. They are in the oven now, but I have no doubt how well they will turn out because I have won awards for my baking before. Also because I followed the recipe in the 1948 Modern Encyclopedia of Cooking, and we have never had a bad recipe from that. I hold the awards for baking over Janet's head every now and then, because while she has made me cookies almost every week of the 48 1/2 years we've been married, she would never enter a baking contest. But I did at work one time. I finished second, and Harley, who cheated and made candy-type bar-cookies finished first. None of the women who entered would talk to either of us for months. Anyway, Janet had the Great British Baking Show on TV as I was baking the brownies. What is the opposite of irony? Wrinkly? Oh, maybe serendipity, in this case. The brownies are to take along on our vacation which starts tomorrow morning.
<edit>They just came out of the oven and I wish I could send you the smell! But here is the picture of the pan of brownies.</edit>

Anniversary Trip

We went to a rental in Easter Washington to celebrate our 51st Anniversary. Bottom line is that we had a good time. Highlights: Beautiful place and views. Access to a very nice stream on a private beach. Coming home, about 11:15am, when we were passing Keechelus Lake (just below the summit of Snoqualmie Pass), we heard what I at first throught was a very loud truck overtaking us, but could not see it in my mirrors. But looking out the left window of the car I saw what I think was an F-18 flying about 50' above our altitude, (or about 150' above the lake level) around 50 yards off to my left! This was followed by two more of the same type planes rolling just like in the video you see of them to make their turns. Total of three of them following the terrain. Cool!!! I haven't seen them in real life doing that, but it is so impressive. Lowlights of the trip, A-Frame house with the bed shoved against the wall is very hard on a tall person who is on the wall side, and Janet fell ...

Irish Meat Pies - First Try

A friend on Rubin Report, ToridLuvr, gave me her recipe for Irish Meat Pies. I thought I'd give it a try, and here is my first try:
